UNION HISTORIES consists of professional historians and research assistants who have researched the histories of more than 100 organized-labor organizations, and a top design and production group that specializes in producing union historical literature and collateral communications pieces.

UNION EVENTS provides organized-labor clients with a highly knowledgeable and proactive events staff that is supported by a full production team, combining multiple years of experience within the events industry to provide the proper setting for any function, celebration or professional gathering.

Calvin Jefferson

Head Historian & President

Calvin is a professional historian and communications expert with an extensive amount of research and writing experience that has come to focus on the history of organized labor unions and their locals.  He has dual Bachelor's Degrees in History and Journalism from The Ohio State University, where he was a History Department research assistant for the B. F. Goodrich Rubber/Tire Co. history book project.

Prior to finding his niche as a union historian and establishing Union Histories, Calvin was a news journalist and editor with several newspaper outlets, writing and reporting extensively for the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun and Cleveland Plain Dealer community newspaper groups.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland (where steamed crabs are king), Calvin has also been the head coach of the Girls Varsity Soccer Team at a private school in suburban Cleveland for the past 14 years. He is a proud military spouse, as his wife serves in the U.S. Navy.

Andy Taucher

Creative Director & Vice President

Andy is a multi-disciplined designer/developer with more than two decades of experience in print and digital media who has has guided all of the design functions of Union Histories since its founding.  He has garnered extensive industry knowledge while serving in various roles ranging from pre-press graphic designer in a small print house to multiple creative director positions at leading creative agencies -- and has now been designing for organized-labor organizations for most of his professional career.

One of the leading designers in the industry, Andy is a cutting-edge graphic designer with 15-plus years of industry experience in interactive media. He has served as the creative director at three notable marketing agencies in the Cleveland area and was senior interactive product developer at American Greetings.

Andy's community involvement includes the Children's Tumor Foundation, and he remains a die-hard Cleveland sports fan.

Ann Wilkins Jefferson

Director of Operations and Events

Ann’s public relations and communication career runs the gamut in media relations and military public affairs; community outreach and public speaking; interviewing, reporting, social media, speechwriting and photojournalism; legislative work, a U.S. Senate campaign; managing teams, escorting VIPs and mentoring. She's led or coordinated events spanning from intimate parties, fundraisers, large receptions and class reunions to anniversary dinners, weddings, military dining outs and Navy/Fleet weeks. She also assists with editing and research.

Holding a bachelor’s degree in Communication Rhetoric from The Ohio State University and two diplomas in Public Affairs from The Defense Information School, Ann's career includes multi-cultural and multi-national training and/or operations in the U.S., South Korea, Italy, Finland, and Afghanistan; national media in NYC; and local media outreach in Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia and Washington D.C. She has bylines for the Navy; Air Force; Homestead Publishing (Chicago Tribune/Baltimore Sun); Ohio magazine; and Credit Unions and CU associations.

A proud Clevelander and service-minded, Ann is an Air Force veteran and Naval Reserve officer with strong attention to detail and empowering others as leaders. She’s volunteered writing and PR as a Jaycee; alumni club president; guest speaker; church/school committees; and press assistance for NEOVets (Northeast Ohio Veterans). “Every American and every local has a purpose and a story to tell!”

Steven Demanett

Lead Designer & Online Manager

Steven is an experienced Multimedia Specialist with over 15 years of immersed work in multimedia design/development, from print to digital media production to web development in addition to his technical/IT capabilities. His unique and advanced skill sets make him a valuable asset to Union Histories — from laying out history books to keeping the website running smoothly.

Steven holds an Associate's degree in Specialized Technologies focused on Multimedia Technologies from the Pittsburgh Technical College. From there, he has gained a demonstrated history of working in the graphic design, web design/development, eLearning development and IT industries, and he has become skilled in graphics, development, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), user experience, marketing and computer and network administration.

Steven enjoys spending his free time learning about science and technology and indulging in TV, movies, music and video games. His favorite combined movie line and pastime are anything Arnold Schwarzenegger says while he simultaneously eats a Chipotle burrito and plays video games.

Robyn McGuffin Hensch

Event Management

Robyn is a true event professional with over 15 years of experience in creating meaningful events, many of which have been for local unions. Her motto is, "As the host of your party, you should enjoy yourself and let me take the stress off your plate." She will guide your local graciously -- and always with a smile -- throughout the planning process, from concept to execution and become an extension of your team.

Robyn's degree is in Communications and Television Management, but her event career began while working at a top radio station in Cleveland. From there, she spent over eight years as the Sponsorship Manager at Playhouse Square, the second-largest performing arts center in the country, where she was tasked with creating unique event experiences for major corporations such as Lexus, Coca Cola, United Airlines, KeyBank, Cleveland Clinic, U.S. Bank, Bacardi, Tito's Handmade Vodka, First Energy and more.  From there, she went onto the world-renowned accounting firm Ernst & Young as a National Event Planner, where they managed up to 30 events at any given time.

No stranger to Unions and Organized Labor, Robyn was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, where her father and grandfather are retired union members. She also loves to travel -- so get her started on your event, no matter the distance!
